“I have known Dr Luisa Sanz for over 20 years professionally and have always admired her passion and commitment in her work with children, young people and families who have been affected by mental health issues. This is of course underpinned and strengthened by her vast clinical knowledge and expertise in this area, alongside her innate ability to be systematic in her approach to service delivery and improvement.

Her appetite for knowledge in areas that are inextricably linked, such as education, offer additional benefits which prove to be a catalyst of active change that is so needed to improve the outcomes of children and young people.

I look forward to seeing the next 20 years of her work that will no doubt, help and support this vulnerable group.”

"I’m really pleased to get the chance to recommend Dr Sanz as she transformed things for me last year.  Owing to a stressful period living/working overseas I developed quite serious OCD and anxiety which were close to forcing me to give up my position. Despite being late December, Luisa offered me a private consultation at very short notice.

Following a calming discussion about the issues I was facing she explained her professional opinion in clear terms and the possible paths forward, ultimately allowing me to make an informed decision on which to choose.  Thanks to this I was able to begin gradually readjusting to normal working life and enjoy the remaining period of my time abroad.

I found Dr. Sanz’s approach truly caring and genuinely empathic. She seemed to get me straight away and I felt she understood my struggles making me feel soon reassured; she clearly had a vast knowledge on mental health and treatments which was vital for my recovery.

But what I believe was her most defining quality is her warm, dedicated and respectful attitude within her experienced and skilled professional background which lead to me becoming hopeful again. I’m really grateful to Dr. Sanz.”

"My son had an appointment with Dr. Sanz last week.

I just wanted to feedback what a superb addition to the CAMHS team she is.

The way she engaged with him was amazing - so warm and friendly yet professional and informative. She treated him like an individual and took time to understand his passions and concerns.

My son has never enjoyed his appointments as he finds them difficult but this is the first time he has left feeling happy.

She is an absolute diamond and I hope she has a long and happy career with this team as we don’t want to lose her!"

I have known Dr Sanz for 4 years during which time she has worked as clinical psychiatrist for Whinfell School. Many of our young people have complex presentations and co-morbidities and in recent years we have seen a significant increase in mental health problems.  Dr Sanz has worked 1:1 with young people, has reviewed medications and has worked with staff to enable us to better meet individual needs.  She always takes time to understand the young person before meeting them, reviewing notes and talking to staff, families and professionals.  She will then get to know the individual sufficiently before making diagnoses or suggesting strategies.

We have had a number of placements that were at risk of breaking down and Dr Sanz’s intervention and support has been key to stabilising these young people.  Of particular use has been the insight that she brings and shares with staff.  On occasion the young persons’ needs are such that Whinfell may no longer be able to meet need and Dr Sanz has been able to identify and recommend the type of specialised support that the young person should move onto.

A great difficulty for us is working effectively with young people who have hitherto undiagnosed presentations. Dr. Sanz has been key to ensuring these individuals access appropriate resources and care. Her contacts with and knowledge of CAMHS and the NHS have been invaluable in these instances and as the Principal I always feel reassured after she has reviewed a case and given us an indication of how best to meet need and keep the young person safe.

Dr Sanz is hugely knowledgeable and insightful and is always able to offer astute, common sense advice.  Her manner is very professional and she is approachable by staff and young people alike.  She is trusted and young people open up to her. She is always frank and open and communicates with staff in a  clear and timely manner. As a result of the work she has done for us she has significantly raised awareness of Mental Health issues, has given staff the confidence to better deal with them and has been very effective in de-stigmatising the whole subject.

Dr Sanz is a huge asset to our provision and has been instrumental in improving the specialised quality care we aim to provide.  She is very valued and I highly recommend her.

What is unique and makes Dr Sanz stand out  is her wonderful accent and extremely stylish dress sense.

Dr. Sanz has been involved in our lives and especially our youngest daughter’s life for over 12 years now.

We sought Dr. Sanz's help when L was at primary school. She had always had difficulty with concentration and Dr. Sanz diagnosed her with ADHD.

L was diagnosed with severe dyslexia and confirmed ADHD when she was 16. During this process Dr. Sanz helped, guided and supported us through this full process and advised us regarding medication and the added need for counselling to give L the best possible change to fulfil her potential.

Having a child with ADHD and the additional problems of dyslexia, anxiety and lack of self esteem is a challenge for any parent and other siblings in the family and we found ourselves at times at a total loss to even understand L let alone be able to help her.  She developed an eating disorder in an attempt to “fit in” with her peers and entered into risk  taking behaviour in relationships and had a couple of episodes of self harm.  She was a very unhappy young person on the inside but hid it well with and over exuberant personality.

Dr. Sanz was just there always to advise us and have those “crucial conversations” with L in an empathetic and supportive way whilst helping L understand her issues and the things she needed to do to help herself.  Dr. Sanz just seemed to know that as L passed through different stages of her education and beyond she would have “tipping’ points” with additional stresses that L would find difficult to cope with.  ie University, self motivated and independent study, living away from home, making good choices re friends and relationships. And she knew what was required to help L get through.

She also recognized the effect L’s illness had on us as parents and L’s older sister and recommended support for us all and gave that support to us whole heartedly, her approach is therefore hugely patient centred and family inclusive at the same time!

Dr. Sanz’s medical knowledge and experience in her field is outstanding. She has the ability to relate to and understand a patient, to know what they require in order to get better in such a clear professional and most importantly at totally empathic way. She is totally committed to her patients and to the family as a whole.

She is way up there in relation to new medications and treatment practices and uses her knowledge and huge experience to inspire other professionals in the field through speaking at conferences. She is just so engaging and eloquent and inspiring in the way she talks about mental health. She freely gives her time to you.

L is still on her journey to recovery and learning to love herself and to realize she is a beautiful human inside and out. But she has  through all this triumphed in her education and she has so much to be proud of. As her parents we are on this journey too and it is so so hard at times.

But for all of us and especially L, knowing that we have the support and guidance of such a brilliant skilled practitioner as Dr. Sanz who genuinely cares is priceless. We know we will get there in the end and L will fulfil all her dreams and ambitions and be a happy young woman.

In no small measure due to the support of Dr. Luisa Sanz.

Our thanks to you Luisa.”
